Mattia Cattaneo has won the 80th edition of the Giro dell’Appennino, a solo victory in a hard and demanding race where the team Neri Sottoli – Selle italia – KTM couldn’t put any rider in the decisive action but Simone Velasco was able to end in the final top 10.
The race exploded on the climb of Bocchetta where four riders managed to escape from the peloton. They were Mattia Cattaneo, Fausto Masnada, Mikel Bizkarra and Simone Ravanelli, a group that defended succesfully their advantage on a second selected group with ours Davide Gabburo, Simone Velasco and Edoardo Zardini.
The team directed by Luca Scinto took the charge of the chase bringing the gap under the minute and then placing Simone Velasco in the 10th place of a very tough final sprint.
The rider of the Isola d’Elba went on the final podium as winner of the Challenge Liguria, a combined classification of the result of Trofeo Laigueglia and Giro dell’Appennino, a clear confirmation of the consistance of his results in these months of 2019.
On wednesday in Frankfurt the team will ride the last race of this first part of the season before taking a break of three weeks, very useful for the more active riders that are gonna prepare our next big goal, the National Championships where we are gonna take part in the end of june.
